Writing Assignment

This is an image of the Egyptian flag and it speaks directly to me because it reminds me of my country; Egypt. Just looking at it brings back memories that I will never forget and brings tears to my eyes. I choose this specific image though, because it does not only depict the Egyptian flag, but it also depicts a very important part of me; my religion. The way the hands are outstretched in the image indicates that the person is supplicating to Allah (God) and the text on the top confirms. The person is asking Allah to protect this country and keep it safe, which is what every person wishes for their country. This image also reminds me of the Egyptian revelation and how strong we can be when something beloved to us is endangered.  Thus, I picked this image because it depicts my love for my country and my connection to my religion.

Color Critique (Lauren)

Photo 1

The pop of color is the red in the bus. The pop of color makes sense in the composition as well as balances it out. The elements that are creating the balance in the composition are the layers of red at the top, then the appearance of red in the middle again. The image is well exposed and consists of varying range of tones. If I were to change anything about it, I would eliminate the top right edge, so that it gives a sense of continuum. The image evokes movement and stillness at the same time. I think that the image is well-composed overall.

Photo 2

The pop of color in this image is mostly in the vegetables as well as the black drops. The pop of color makes sense and fits in well with the composition. The image is consists of a sense of symmetrical balance due to the four divisions of the tomato slices. The image is well exposed and has a rich range of tones. The only thing that I would have changed about this image is that I would have liked a little more of the information to be in focus. The image evokes thoughts of food. Overall, it is a nice image.

Photo 3

The pop of color is the yellow and brown in the fence/boarders. The pop of color fits well in the composition and is balanced by the light that is emitted from the opposite side. The image is well exposed and has an excellent range of tones. I would not have changed much if I had been the one to take the image. The images evokes a felling of calmness, and is a great composition overall.

Photo 4

The pop of color in this image is the white in the popsicle. The pop of color fits in well with the image especially that the rest of the image is out of focus, and the white is the main color in focus. The image is well balanced due to the whiteness of the popsicle contrasting the rainbow of colors in the umbrella. I think that is image is a little bit under exposed. There is a good range of tones in the image. If I changed anything about this image it would be its exposure. The images evokes a feeling of coolness. This is a nice composition overall.

Photo 5

The pop of color in this image is in the different colors in the wrappers. The varied, yet out of focus background makes the pop of color fit nicely into the composition. The image is nicely balanced due to the lightness on the right side of the image contrasting the darker tones on the left side. The image is also well-exposed and has a great range of tones. The only thing I would have changed about this image is that I would have made the wrappers symmetrically balanced. The image evokes a fun mood and is a well composed image overall.

Photo 6

The pop of color is in the blue and purple in the wall and the the pipe. The Pop of color makes sense in the image and fits in well. The composition is balanced by the calmness of the purple color and the brightness of the blue one. The image is slightly under exposed, but has an ok range of tones. I would have just changed the image's exposure level. The image evokes an late evening mood. Overall, the image has a nice composition.

Photo 7

The pop of color is the red in the chain. The image is well-exposed which helps the pop of color fit in nicely. The image is well balanced by the darkness on either side of the chain contrasting with the brightness on both sides of the image. The image consists of a nice range of tones. The only thing that I would change about this image is that I would have liked to bring in focus a little of what was above the chain to create a better balance. The image evokes a feeling of religiosity and is overall well composed.

Photo 8

The pop of color is the red in the straw, the green in the label as well as the purple in the chair. The pops of color create an overall sense of harmony and fit in well together. The image is well balanced by the darker tones in the window balancing out the darker color in the napkin. The image is well exposed and has a great range of tones. I don't think that I would have changed anything about this image. It creates a feeling of enjoyment and is a great composition overall.

Photo 9

The pop of color is in the different colors of the leaves, predominately the red ones.  The pop of color makes sense as well as fits in well with the image. The image is balanced by the contrast that the light in the upper right corner creates with the darker tone in the bottom left corner. The image is well exposed and has varying range of tones. If I could change anything in this image I would have tried to make more of the red leaves in focus. The feeling evokes feelings of nature and is nicely composed overall.

Photo 10

The pop of color is the yellow in the phone as well as the black in the typewriter, and the grayness in its keys. The different pops of colors fit in well in this image. The image is well balanced with the contrast of the bright and darker colors, and it has a nice range of tones. The image is well exposed, and evokes a felling of busyness. The only change I would make to this image is that I would have liked the phone to be a little more in focus, and would have used an empty background. However, the image is well-composed overall.
